SOLANA Outpatient Services

The mission of the Solana Outpatient Services is to offer individuals support in a living arrangement which promotes independent skills acquisition and provides increased opportunities for socialization and community integration.

Sunnyside Apartments - 4635 Atlas El Paso, Texas 79904 (915) 747-3630. - The Sunnyside Apartments is a 10 unit, 20 bed HUD-subsidized apartment complex for independently functioning adults with chronic mental illness. It is open to any qualifying El Paso County resident, and is not limited to El Paso MHMR consumers only. It offers affordable housing which is environmentally safe, aesthetically pleasing, and within easy access of community resources. Its aim is to promote an individual's continued success in the community by providing a dignified living opportunity, which does not sacrifice financial equilibrium or quality of life. . This is not a treatment or training program, but "as needed" support is provided through linkage to appropriate EPMHMR or community resources. A staff person is available on site 24 hours a day.

HUD Supported Housing Program - 3410 Morenci El Paso, Texas 79903 (915) 562-5898 Fax 915.680.8170. - Supported Housing is a HUD subsidized program. The primary focus of this program is to provide individuals who are homeless with the opportunity to succeed in their chose housing situation. These supports are based on the special needs of the individual including locating low cost housing, negotiating leases, acquiring household items/furniture, providing subsidies/deposits, moving into residence and successfully maintaining their residence. Services are specified by HUD, with the primary focus being to develop independent living skills. Independent living skills training is provided in the following areas: budgeting/money management, grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking, home maintenance, community mobility and laundry skills. In addition, linkage to other community resources such as, DHS/food stamps, Social Security Administration/benefits, local food banks, Sun Metro/transportation, Link up America/telephone, HUD/Section 8/Public Housing, Grocery Stores/frequent shopper discounts and referral to vocational/employment/educational opportunities.

Supported Housing II - 3410 Morenci El Paso, Texas 79903 (915) 562-5898 Fax (915) 680-8170 - The primary focus of this program is to provide individuals with the opportunity to succeed in their chosen housing situation. These supports are based on the special needs of the individual and include assistance locating low cost housing, negotiating leases, acquiring household items/furniture, providing temporary rental subsidies/deposits, moving into residence, and successfully maintaining their residence. Support services will be provided for as long as the individual is in need of independent living skills training. Independent living skills training is provided in the following areas: budgeting/money management, grocery shopping, menu planning, cooking, home maintenance, community mobility, laundry skills, socialization, problem solving and medication monitoring/education. In addition linkage is provided o other community resources such as: DHS/food stamps, Social Security Administration/benefits, local food banks, Sun Metro/transportation, Link Up America/telephone, HUD/Section 8, Public Housing, Grocery stores/frequent shopper discounts, and referral for vocational/employment/educational opportunities.

HUD Homeless Outreach Team - 3410Morenci El Paso, Texas 79904 (915)562-5898 Fax:(915)680-8170 - This program is funded by a HUD grant. The Homeless Mental Health resource Team seeks to provide mental health services to persons residing in emergency shelters such as the Rescue Mission, Opportunity Center and the Salvation Army. Members of the team are dispatched to the homeless shelters to establish regular contact with the homeless mentally ill and to provide a visible presence in the facilities. The goal of this team is to stabilize the homeless mentally ill, admit them for continuity of services through El Paso MHMR, and assist them in acquiring Social Security benefits. Screening services are provided to identify those in need of medical attention and psychiatric services and to make the appropriate referral. The staff also provide rehab services in the form of general education in symptom management, socialization, adult living skill and problem solving. Homeless individuals are provided assistance in purchasing personal hygiene articles, but passes/bus tokens, and medications.

Integrated Community Treatment (ICT) - 3410 Morenci, El Paso, Texas 79903 915-562-5898 Fax: (915) 680-8170 - The primary focus of the ICT program is to provide customers with rehabilitative skills training that meets their specific needs. Rehabilitative skills training is available in the following areas: symptom management, which includes medication education, medication monitoring, and training in the use of coping skills; independent living skills training, which includes training in the use of problem solving and anger management techniques, apartment cleanliness, organization, and maintenance, budgeting, hygiene, and accessing community resources. Services available through ICT are Supported Housing, Supported Employment, Service Coordination, substance abuse intervention, advocacy services, and crisis resolution. The mission of the ICT program is to provide flexible, wraparound services and supports that are individualized to meet each customer's unique needs. Intensive rehabilitative skills training is available separately or in conjunction with Supported Housing and Supported Employment Services. Symptom management and independent living skills training is offered with the goal being to assist individuals in remaining independent in the community and to avoid psychiatric hospitalization. Average length of stay in the program is six months, at which time, the customer is transferred to an outpatient clinic for continued services. Customers decide where they wish to work, and are provided with assistance in obtaining the job of their choice. Customers are assisted in learning the skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment. Skills training is available in the following areas: completion of job applications, interviewing skills, job coaching, and job maintenance. Rehabilitative skills training is available in the following areas: symptom management, which includes medication education, medication monitoring, and training in the use of coping skills; independent living skills training, which includes training in the use of problem solving and anger management techniques, budgeting, hygiene, and accessing community resources. Symptom management and independent living skills training is offered with the goal being to assist individuals in remaining independent in the community and to avoid psychiatric hospitalization.

Emergency Shelter Grant - 3410 Morenci El Paso, Texas 79903 (915) 562-5898 Fax:(915)680-8170 - This program consists of funds obtained from an Emergency Shelter Grant for the provision of monthly rent, security deposits, utilities, and consumer supplies for the Homeless mentally ill. Funds are extremely limited and are dispersed on a first come, first served basis. The purpose of the grant is to provide one-time assistance in cases of emergencies.
