In-Home and Family Support Program

The In-Home and Family Support Program is designed to provide funds to individuals or their families for the purchase of supported living services and /or goods that are above and beyond the scope of usual needs that are necessitated by the person's mental disability. Upon initial contact eligibility is determined based on diagnosis, (a mental illness, mental retardation, a pervasive developmental disorder, a developmental disorder, or a developmental delay in a child between the ages 0 an 4), residency, income and need.

IHFS Program funds may be used to provide services that relate to the person's mental disability and directly support the person to live in his/her natural home. IHFS assists persons with mental disabilities in making decisions about their service needs, integrating persons into community living by promoting self sufficiency, and ensuring flexibility to meet the unique needs identified by persons.

If eligible, determination of allowable services will be made which may include health services, training/counseling, community inclusion services, home care, transportation, and respite care. Limited assistance for special equipment or architectural modifications may be given through a one-time grant. The program may supplement services, but not substitute for existing services and funding. It is not the programs purpose to improve the living conditions of persons living at or below the poverty level or to purchase desirable services.
